Radioactive Jesus
acrylic on canvas, wood, mm
30 x 24 in.
This work deals specifically with the effects of war and violence on innocent people. It is pure emotion, anger, and confusion. I completed it just prior to the presidential election in 2004.
“Radioactive Jesus” was fueled by the phenomenon of simultaneous lust for war and the righteous proclamation of Christian values. I wondered to myself how the two coexist and still retain their own perspective integrities. Is it possible? Why do people claim to love and follow the way of Christ while retaining a merciless vengeance for people who do not share similar beliefs? Are they not the same creator?
I want to believe in the pure intentions of democracy. But our democracy is clouded by religion, capitalism and greed. It makes things a bit complicated.
