SuperHeroines: Vaporatrix
gelatin silver print, pencil
15 x 19 in.

I want the power to fight the bad guys, right wrongs, and “pow!” “bang!” beat people up, so I created an alter-ego— a super heroine. Many women aspire to save the world. I photographed those women whose strong characters I admire. Some women wanted super-human powers of flight, speed, or strength. Others desired destructive powers that they could wield with caprice… for a good cause! Many wanted to rid the world of corrupt politicians, evil corporations, the patriarchy, and common nastiness. The photographic portraits confirm that these are real women and the drawing momentarily plays with our sense of reality.
