ARTIST STATEMENT
The Supreme Court Dobbs decision coupled with news reports of a very young, pregnant girl who couldn’t get an abortion in her home state was devastating. I tried to imagine her journey to a clinic miles away and what she would bring with her: a blanket , her favorite stuffed animal, maybe some snacks. Who could she trust and how would she fare afterwards? This is my first quilt.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I’ve only recently returned to making and showing art. The current state of polarization and targeting of certain groups of people have incensed me as an Asian American. I’ve chosen to explore past and present events and attitudes and their effects on people. I’ve been reconsidering many ideas from colonialism to the unwritten history of Asian immigrants in the United States. I went to art school many years ago and now live in a largely rural, conservative county.
