Indira Freitas Johnson received a B.A. from the University of Bombay in Bombay, India and a M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Freitas Johnson has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions. Solo show locations include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, the Chicago Cultural Center, Ann Nathan Gallery, Clarion University and Rhode Island School of Design Museum. Her work may be found in many private and public collections such as the High Museum, the Peace Museum, and the College of DuPage. She is the Founder and Executive Director of the Shanti Foundation for Peace, established in Chicago in 1993 to foster greater peace between cultures through education, the arts, and grass roots community development.
