wool and cotton tapestry
31.5 x 23.5 x 1.5 in.
My art is articulated through wool and cotton in hand-woven tapestry using a near-minimalist expression. It explores color, form, and principally light. Inspiration comes from the geometry and rhythms of the natural world, from architectural references, and from other artists, especially 20th Century abstract expressionist painters. I believe tapestry is not only art, it is augmented art, amplified art, because of its inherent tactile sensuousness and its implication of timelessness. Tapestry simultaneously engages the senses and the intellect. In addition to highly colored pieces I also work with black/white, and monochromatic tones in repetitive patterns. I revel in and feel awed by the constructive, additive process of weaving an idea into a contemporary tapestry. My expressive goal is to excite similar enjoyment in the viewers and owners of my work.
