ARTIST STATEMENT
This work is part of a series of three paintings that aims to express the complexities of female representation in a postcolonial world, where women – women of color in particular – are made to believe that there is only space for one image, one dimension and one token representative to speak for all. What sets us apart, though, is the fact that we operate most successfully through allyships; Partnerships of women who care for each other enough to make space, to give space and to hold space. This series celebrate those women: girlfriends who will continue to lift you up, to include you, and to still be there for you on the edge of that frame –no matter what.

I was a finalist in the Women United Art Prize Fiber Art Category in 2022, and special mentioned in 2023. I was invited to show in the USA Exhibition at Japan’s 2023 International Art Exchange at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Alongside art talks for students in the US and Korea, I was recently interviewed by Women United Art Movement’s podcast scheduled to air February 2024. My art is available on Saatchi Art and Kawkab Art. I belong to global art communities The Art Queens and Curator’s Salon while completing a Master’s in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester.
