Stylish Influences – Japanese/European
mixed media
5 x 7 x 3 in.
I have been creating one of a kind artist’s books for over a decade now and my work usually reflects a female perspective. I enjoy using fabric, stitching and knitting as well as more traditional materials. Almost any material has the potential to become an interesting book/object.
I often use history and fashion history in particular. This pair of boxes containing books refers to the mid 1800’s when Japan first opened to the west. The women of Yokohama wanted to look European and therefore “modern” and dressed in European clothing for a short period of time while Europe was fascinated with the kimono and all things Japanese.
