Equal Representation

Of all the solo exhibitions since 2007 at the Whitney Museum, 29 percent went to women artists (Reilly, Maura).

Equal gender representation in arts institutions is at the core of what WMG puts into practice. The gallery always exhibits a majority of female-identified artists, but welcomes the contribution of those who may not identify as female to contribute to the dialogue of the exhibitions. Historically the representation of female artists in galleries and museums has been embarrassingly lopsided, and this inequality continues through to today. WMG most recently has combat this by introducing more solo exhibition opportunities for our arts community, which is extremely valuable to an artist’s career trajectory.
