ARTIST STATEMENT
The pieces I chose to be juried are a direct reaction to the state I live in- Iowa. Iowa is becoming an authoritarian state trampling on women’s, LGBTQ rights, not protecting our citizens and children, banning books and under funding public schools, making it more rigid for people to apply for SNAP and Medicaid. My pieces are very subtle in addressing and opening conversations on women’s bodies, rights, strengths and the need to protect ourselves.
