Around/About
handmade paper
13 x 28 in.
For many years I have sewed materials that are found in my immediate environment and reflect my interest in architecture, communication in contemporary culture, political issues that affect women and my personal history.
Living in the country I have become immersed in the natural world in a very personal way. This has led to an intense awareness of everything that grows and dies on the land. Using seedpods, roots, reeds, thorn bushes and other natural materials I have created a series of animal/plant hybrids and forms that explore personal transformation, challenges and the adventure of continual growth.
Finding new ways to expand my visual vocabulary has led to papermaking. Concepts have driven my work and materials have lent inspiration. Finding the potential in paper, stretching it out of its traditional postures and pursuing my personal vision are issues that inform my work.
