ARTIST STATEMENT
Artist’s Statement: I like to envision other worlds, ones on a fictional plane. Where that life can only exist due to the efforts of this life, and yet the two remain separate. A piece of reality only the visionaries behind animated story-telling can express. When I paint, it feels as if I am using the colors of acrylic to carve out a still frame of these new worlds. I see my art thru the lens’ of a story being told and “pause” has set the scene in stone (or canvas). Other times my art is bred out of technical skill practice. While I have learned to deconstruct the creative process to have any rules, I have also developed an appreciation for the skillsets that have aided in my artist block. I enjoy experimenting with color theory, proportions, lighting, and various style choices to expand my creative toolbox.
The art process is a meditative one for me, occasionally becoming a nuisance behind the Trust the Process phase, but calming and inspiring nonetheless. It helps instill hope into my life that what I can dream of can be made by my own hands. It becomes a spiritual experience when what I see, feel, believe, etc. finds a way to be expressed by the final result of my art. How else could I create and not see it be a culmination of the life I have led up to its creation? My art teaches me about myself, which further inspires me to keep going.
