Eileen Downes is a painter currently working out of her studio near Portland, Oregon. Early on she pursued a career in graphic design and scientific illustration working for a California civil engineering firm, later earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art from California State University, Sacramento, and a Graphic Design Certificate from the University of California at Davis. For her pour paintings, Eileen has developed a unique artistic style by strategically layering bits of torn magazine papers to create a textured base and then pouring oil and water based paint in a freestyle form. Bubbles, swirls and drips add to the organic feel of the paintings. Often she adds a bit of pen and ink drawing, a harkening back to her days as a scientific illustrator.
