If There Were Heaven
batik on silk
15 x 48 in.
My work revolves around female sexuality, gender disparity, and the exploration of each. During my decades-long love of fabric, I have progressed from batik (having taught in both Mexico and the U.S.) to Shibori, and sculptural installations. In the 7/1/18 NYTimes article about the groundbreaking, yet widely unrecognized artist Adrian Piper, author Thomas Chatterton Williams wrote about “the embrace of identitarian essentialism and the rising reactionary populism that defines our era.” Interesting.
