The pictures in this series are environmental portraits of women and girls constructed through a personal and psychological gaze. The female domestic space that I inhabited as a child influences the content and form in this series. Formal dresses, graceful poses, (re)arranged environments, and the subjects’ physical and personal dispositions are raw materials used to create the photographs. The elaborate clothing and the simplistic and yet complex settings suggest struggle, tragedy and longing — all the things that are usually hidden and concealed in our public appearances.
