Skirtiron
oil on canvas
6 x 6 in.

I use figures as an outlet of etiquette by elongating and molding the shape. Concurrently, I use domestic objects which once cluttered the canvas, now highlighting specific forms; plates are used as patterns on clothing or a skirt becomes a wineglass upside down. Most people associate fashion as a direct influence in my work, whereas I see it as a mix of the historical context of beauty, social conduct, domesticity, and fashion, and their relation to line, shape, and color of the body.
