ARTIST STATEMENT
Three-dimensional paper doll diorama of Josephine Baker and La Revue Negre in 1926 Paris, France.
Despite the fetishization of many Blacks in Paris, Josephine used this as a platform to become a civil rights pioneer, war time heroine, resistance fighter, and Mother of the Rainbow Tribe. A sexy, determined, free spirited, nonconformist, complex, trail blazing black female icon.
