Nurses
quilt
49 x 41 in.
My quilts are composed of images found in abandoned books and magazines I’ve collected through the years. Most of these books tend to have subjects that would traditionally be considered of interest to women.
The patchwork quilting seems to work well with the found nature of the images, working as a fabric collage that evokes woman’s work in a woman’s media.
These two subjects – homemaking and nursing – are physically, mentally and emotionally demanding jobs that are woefully underappreciated because of their feminine provenance. Yet where would the world be without these women? They are as essential to our well-being as a bright warm quilt.
