The Sarcinae de Corpus Series is a series of sculptural “handbags” that focuses on the emotional and physical challenges associated with illness and disease. Titled after the Latin term for “baggage of the body”, these pieces reference the emotional baggage that is caused by illness. In order to cope with this anxiety, many individuals seek comfort in the power of material objects. Like religious artifacts, these pieces reflect the notion of a belief in the cathartic power of objects.
