Home is sometimes just a house. It can offer little joy or comfort during a storm. Sometimes the storm resides within. A long ago memory of the uncertainty of the next blow up, the next physical altercation came to the surface on the second day of quarantine, knowing that many women were living their nightmare in the confines of a global pandemic. Women and children living with that uncertainty and constant source of anxiety . . . their home a roof over their heads, but little else. My paintings of interiors echo a passive chaos reflected in disarranged furniture beset by creeping vines casting an ominous tone. The notion of hope reflected in a brillant palette with blooms serving as metaphors of a woman’s strength, grace and beauty in the midst of misery.
