Squirrel Takes Heart (2016)
acrylic on paper
18 x 12 in.

I have been painting dolls from my antique collection (even since I had my solo show, “Dolls As Heroes”, in 2005 at Woman Made Gallery). It is natural for me to include natural elements in my paintings, especially when I am inspired by the North woods, where I paint in the summer in Michigan.

“Squirrel Takes Heart” shows sinister aspects of nature, even in seemingly nonthreatening animals.

I studied at S.A.I.C. with Chicago Imagists (including Christina Ramberg – who is included in the new book about woman artists by Booklist editor Donna Seaman. Currently, my “Cool Globe” public art project is on a canal in Warsaw Poland after being in Jerusalem in 2015.
