ARTIST STATEMENT
In tempered late-afternoon light, an unexpected shark fin of rare blue ice appeared on the Straits of Mackinac, as though to be swirling in a frozen tundra. While I stood on the shoreline of Mackinac Island, the only sounds I heard were the creaks and moans of glacial ice breathing before me. I absorbed their intense hues of refracted light. A sense of contemplation and quietness draped over me, enveloping me in such serene beauty. This resonant and contemplative image was my first experience witnessing this arctic phenomenon, and my first winter on the island. While I typically work in mixed-media, sometimes it can just be a photographic moment frozen in time that captures beauty and grace.
