ARTIST STATEMENT
Portraits of family and Dyke community are the source of endless exploration into how I became who I am and what continues to intrigue and mystify me about that path. Influenced by portrait and documentary photographers and collage artists, through the lens of cameras and the shaky lens of memories, I interpret my past, present, and becoming by clicking, cutting, combining and/or coloring images. Some are part of a project or series, others borrowed from a family photo album, and every one an opportunity to reflect on connections made and relationships configured. I want the viewer to look at my work and naturally begin to consider these questions for themselves – the how and why of self via siblings, parents, and community; the knocking and shaking of our memory trees, the complex rhythms we’re forever attempting to simplify.
