ARTIST STATEMENT
I have been at Interdisciplinary Art (a combination of video, writing, photography, digital art, painting, collage). Mix and match, yes but deeper than that is the creating from the intricacies between arts categories that create genres unto themselves. As a kid I drew on the walls to stop WW2. It stopped. These days I do what I can do the least well. In other words, I’m geared to challenges and the enjoyment of trying new ideas out. Therefore I don’t aim for an identifiable style or with sales in mind. Never have and I’m 88.
I do require of myself to depict a quest toward justice and the commonality of all creatures, mostly humans – specifically children. My message highlights the rights of children to live in safety and nurture. My concepts involve sub texts of wider realities, the rich spectrum of Yin and Yang. All art has this in common- big concept no matter what the medium. Which segues to the theme of Girl friends: Childselves (girl) and pure acceptance (friend) I find that I have made a lot of girl friend art without being aware of it. Art as Innocence of awareness. To label my own art – Social Surrealism.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I have exhibited my visual art in many North American venues, having racked up over 25 juried shows and some duos and solos. I’m most proud of my show with Joan
Brown at the Stemphli Gallery, NYC. I’m also proud to have exhibited habitually at the Art at the Cave Gallery near me, a generous sized place that democratically shows the work by a range of local Washington and Oregon artists. I have a BS and MA in Inter-Arts (San Francisco State University) an FCC license, contractor’s certificate. In addition, I have written a glut of published works in the prose/poetry genre. I have done video art collaborations with performance artists, Laurie Anderson and Lynn Leeson. I live and create in Portland Oregon.
