It was my first ultrasound. I asked the nurse the only question that was on my mind. “Yes, you’re pregnant,” she told me. When I met the OBGYN, we talked for two minutes before she left the room. And from my hospital bed, I Googled what an ectopic pregnancy was. I asked a nurse for water and she said no. She explained that I was scheduled to have surgery hours later and I wasn’t allowed to drink. I asked for a bag to throw up. I considered calling my mom.
When I woke up after the surgery, I begged every nurse I saw to get my partner from the waiting room. My abortion saved my life.
