Artists Statement on Reciprocity
I have pondered this submission a lot for the variety of mental and creative outlets it opened. I responded to Sanaz’ work and chose her because her work is very deep and intense and has on me an emotional resonance other than impact and affinity on an aesthetic level . Our cultural backgrounds (I’m from Italy and she is from Iran) are so different but so close as our common denominator here is the same. We have shared art courses and built a great friendship when in the same Art school of Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana. The emotional expression and need that come from our work represent the same cry for respect and fair resizing of women’s stature in the world. We both underline with our work here the deranged and fragmenting repression of our rights (as women) to be and be free all costs. Repression and control imposed by obsolete, cruel systems present as norms in some cultures but also repression and control imposed by abusive and manipulative men’s (and women’s) minds in our everyday environments, interactions, relationships. Being female (and artist and foreign and introvert) has made me object of persecution by ways of slander, oppressive stalking, total abuse of privacy via virtual ways and overall individual discrimination. Our opposite ways to express the same concept make my work and Sanaz fuse to perfection and to a one neutral voice.
