The politics behind these numbers represent social issues related to Alaskan women in 1999.

418 = reported rapes; 63% = % of reported cases of women + their children abused by the same abuser; 10.7% is a failed US Census report stating only 10.7% of households had no man present (Alaskan Department of Health and Human Resources reported over 50% that same year).

The numbers become political when state and federal funding determines the level of intervention and support.
