The Houston Energy are part of the Women’s Professional Football League. 2005 will be my forth season photographing the team. I photograph these players as I admire their dedication to a sport that is likely the most popular in American culture, and yet is still often considered unsuitable for a woman to play. They are a diverse group of women ranging from students to doctors to geologists, all with the common desire to excel in their sport and for pure love of the game.

My goal with these photographs is to portray active women participating in a sport on their own terms. They are in the spotlight, not because of their appearance, but because of what they can do.

These images represent a small sample of my work with the Houston Energy, which includes both black and white silver gelatin prints and more recently, digital photographs in color.
