My work contains commonplace subject matter rendered in an uncomfortable or unusual way, provoking a question about the familiar, and whether being “at home” is a safe place to be.
“Eat” functions simultaneously as an appealing invitation and as a repulsive command, depending on the perspective of the viewer; a grotesque Rubin’s vase. To this end, the subject matter has been rendered precisely yet ambiguously, and may bring to mind a scolding mother, a generous host, or a cruel tormentor.
