“My art often focuses on how connecting with and touching others is challenged and restricted. The restrictions are physical, societal, or self-imposed. We are drawn to reach out despite the often overwhelming odds of making a connection. The urge is irrepressible.

I made a mask, which can serve many purposes, among them sanctifying, isolating, hiding, and protecting. They shift the perception of the wearer’s identity, as well as that of the viewer.

I represented an ocean because oceans often symbolize the vastness of a hostile or dangerous world. Trusting to this wide wilderness for help connecting with others is the ultimate hopeful act.”
