ARTIST STATEMENT
My work exists in a realm of endless imagination where illogical images, dreams, memories, and intuition take visual form with trivial aspects of daily life accompanied by a portrait of an imagined woman (who represents my self consciousness) through oil and acrylic paint. Here, everything we can possibly think of are just as tangible as everyday objects. Since I was a child, I always visit and revisit those same kinds of imagery – ones that scare me, intrigue me, confuse me. The results, which are never predictable, come out in representations of my consciousness through the woman(s) that I paint. They are just as complex and meaningful as they are in our unconscious minds.
With influences as strong as Takato Yamamoto and Salvador Dali, my work is a reflection of my existence that is a part of everyone else’s, or what I would like to call it our collective unconsciousness.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Chicago based visual artist, painter and competent tattoo artist, Victoria Goite, has been honing her craft for many years as early as 8 years-old. Originally a visual artist, she began participating and receiving awards in 2016 such as in the IHSAE and the Scholastic Art & Writing Scholarship in 2018, interned at After School Matters, and displayed her art on the CTA and the Chicago Public Library through DCASE. Continuing as a proactive Fine Arts major at UIC, she showcased her art at numerous galleries citywide: Bridgeport Art Gallery, Fulton Street Collective, Hyde Park Art Center, Pilsen Art House, and more local galleries. Becoming a Sales Associate at Blick’s Art Materials and a painting instructor at Bottle & Bottega contributed to her growing career.
Currently, her endeavors as a tattoo artist are to integrate and explore her expressive visions of Asian-inspired art and modern surrealism from a canvas to a permanent scar on a body. The arts in such a permanent medium, as well as continuing her passions in painting are what she strives to share to the world of the unimaginable.
