ARTIST STATEMENT
Fading Memories” was inspired from a drawing my daughter did when she was eight years old. As she was growing up, separation increased, days, months and years passed by. Waving goodbye symbolized a daily gesture and with each passing day meant the world awaits. In this painting invisible ghost-like imagery keeps us safe as she navigates an unknown world. Keeping these faded memories helps to ease the sense of uncertainty. Time fades our memories. Balance, obstacles, impact and floating are all elements in this piece and keeps with the theme for this exhibition. My work captures images through various means as I layer and re-imagine figures and narratives, skew perspectives and manipulate mediums. Born and raised in Chicago I have always been drawn to the arts, especially painting. Seeing the absurdity of everyday life is what inspires me.
