Viscid #4
archival inkjet print
20 x 20 in.
In this series entitled “Viscid,” I point the camera towards myself for the first time to share my story. I employ my own body to present a metaphysical presence, a sense of life rather than a mere recording of a person. As such, I intend to disrupt the codes by which we normally read images of a woman, or a woman-artist.
My photographs reflect my desire for powerful maternal femininity to combat and overwhelm abandonment and abuse. These images, a means of both empowerment and restriction, reveal the condition of a fragile self who longs for having access to a life that is free of violence and chaos.
