I fantasize that the props on the domestic stage absorb our most intimate interactions. Fecund and treacherous, my surroundings form a terrain of comfort and restraint. I negotiate these tensions in my work, using a decorative impulse to articulate desire for an object that remains at a distance, inaccessible under layers of absence. As it reaches to extremes, my urge to embellish – cover, envelop, caress, camouflage – contains within it the possibility, even the necessity, for loss and longing. In my work the gap between covered and cover becomes a place from which to address the intersection of absence and desire.
