Torso
sculpture, bronze
19 x 14 x 9 in.

The body in art and sculpture has historically fulfilled a multitude of meanings. It has appeared as symbols of fertility, maternity, an object of perfection, a source of sensual pride and physical strength. At times it has been naked and unadorned while at other times it required covering as an object of shame. However, it has survived as the central means through which to express what it is to be human. ‘Torso’, is energetically sculpted to show the female form as part of nature’s grand scheme, not idealized, reacting to gravity and aging, while simultaneously portraying a physical presence, power and strength. She will leave a mark in her world.
