My work integrates the essential ideas that fuel my creative process. An extensive background in textile design and history has led me to an approach to painting that involves building distinct color fields and adding decorative elements which reference pattern design. The decision to forego traditional perspective originally emerged unconsciously from the influence of Indian art, and now becomes exaggerated as I intentionally push this visual mode. Texture and depth are created with reflective metallic paint and areas of detailed line work. Conceptually, I focus on creating open narratives where characters materialize from a world of abstract fantastical imagery.
Drawing on the media of comics and animation, I portray fictional beings frozen in a single moment of time allowing the viewers themselves to tell the rest of the story.
