Shyvette Williams, ceramic craft person (vessels and sculpture) painter and book illustrator was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, however, it was in Chicago where her early talents blossomed and were nurtured through the Chicago Public School System. As a young adult she received several scholarships to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she studied fashion illustration. The “presence” in Shyvette’s work is due to her diverse experience as a runway model, theatre costume designer, book illustrator, painter, and extensive international traveler. Her vast exposure has afforded her a unique opportunity to experience first-hand the continental art scene. Threads of rich experiences constantly reappear in her new works. The most recent manifestations appear in a series of drawings in charcoal and graphite on paper called “Grace.“
