ARTIST STATEMENT
This work is part of a series of photographs examining my Indian heritage. Each photograph is a photograph within itself. I’ve used objects from my Indian heritage, jasmine flowers, curry fabrics to create an ethereal image. Each is of a different childhood memory. The images may sometimes be hard to make out clearly, suggesting how our memories fade and are distorted over time. As a collection, they are a representation of the many facets of my identity.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am an Indian born artist based in Indianapolis. My parents emigrated to the United States when I was a child. I grew up on the east coast, eventually finding the Midwest as my home. My art speaks to our different selves and explores our many identities, intertwining themes and motifs from her Indian background. I use fabric and found objects. I enjoy juxtaposing the ordinary from our every day to create something unusual and thought provoking.
