ARTIST STATEMENT
Using the color red and a flower motif, I experimented with using graphic and realistic imagery together to form a composition. This piece is part of a series that looks at change through the movement of color. I see the movements of color as representing emotional states that come and go.
During a time when I had little space to paint, I decided to experiment with digital media. To my surprise, I found that I could create painterly effects with pixels. I was intrigued. Using Adobe Illustrator and it’s tools, I found that I could manipulate line, shape and color to create new imagery. Especially exciting for me were the added elements of light and transparency that are possible with this media.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I was born in Chicago and lived there for much of my life. Like many others, life has taken me in many directions in the journey of learning how to live in this world. I started drawing when I was about four years old, under the dining room table, and once on the wall. On paper I found a way to explore the world and what I was capable of. It helped me survive. Making art has been a constant thread in my life. I live in New Hampshire these days. I work in painting, printmaking and now digital media.
