ARTIST STATEMENT
The represented works were made in oil on canvas. They belong to a larger body of figurative work in which the female figures become like characters in a drama about a young woman’s journey toward individuation. The work presents the viewer with the felt trepidation that often becomes like a faithful and dreaded companion on such a journey; as the hunting down of dreams and future selves can present all sorts of unanticipated dangers. Despite a real fear of isolation and deprivation, the figures press into a heavy darkness. The work is deeply personal and reflects my own journey toward self knowledge. My hope is that these paintings will resonate with anyone who finds themselves on a similar path.
