This painting is about loneliness.

Three years ago my daughter Gretchen bought this vintage prom dress in the hope of wearing it as a wedding dress. After her partner was killed and her hopes were shattered, it was difficult to look at this dress let alone paint her wearing it.

Two years after his death I found a photograph of her posing in this dress and created this painting. At first I painted in several objects on the table and the planet Saturn in the night sky above her. But the space felt cluttered and I painted them out. The figure remains alone with her memories.
