ARTIST STATEMENT
These mixed media images of color, multiple materials and abstract themes lead me in a direction of closing the circle of my recent inquiry into my family history. Images that are the beginnings of looking at the roots of family, life and nature that tethers us to the land, our history, and the ancestors that are at our back. This work signals a change in direction, a loosening of my process from the controlled drawing featured in my last solo exhibitions that explored family history and its consequences represented by drawing of stones and barbed wire.
As life has thrown its surprises at me, I found that I need less and less control over my art production. Compelled to work on this process and project I found a green which reflects the nature of what I am feeling, seeing and working toward.
These works also represent the multiple stages of this growth in my art process digging deeper each time I place a mark on paper. The art ranges in scope from 2-d to 3-d, using a multitude of materials, graphite, ink, fabric and more. The work comes from the heart and the mind. My intent is constant and the art reflects my place in the written past and the unknowable future.
