ARTIST STATEMENT
We are in constant conversation with the world. Day and night, talking nonstop. Arguing, agreeing, laughing, arguing again. A converging of inner and outer topographies. The hills in southwest Wisconsin have imprinted their curves, their shadows and shapes, upon me. I see the land, the skies, the waters and their creatures. I converse with them continuously. It is a vital exchange.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Pamela Callahan was born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and received a B.A. in Studio Art from Lawrence University. Then she moved to Chicago. Then she walked into Woman Made Gallery, a tiny storefront next to the el and a whole world opened. Her heart and mind opened too.
How does art do that? Given space, a forum, a place for exchange and conversation and support. So wherever the art may lead, we learn and grow from each other’s stories. Thank you Woman Made, for being that space.
Pamela was involved with Woman Made Gallery for the duration of her time in the city, as volunteer, gallery associate and advisor. In 2004, Pamela returned to Wisconsin and co-created Otter Creek Arts, a rural art studio in the Driftless Area.
