In search of a balance between chaos and structure, I investigate materials and their boundaries in an attempt to understand the workings of my surroundings. As my identity alternates between a Russian and an American, I consider the character of the space in between. Combining quick prints with labored sewing, I create collaged works that are both two- and three-dimensional.

Driven by my immediate reactions to materials, I allow myself to play with the idea of binaries, both physically and figuratively. As I challenge material hierarchy, forms develop through scale as a reference to the body and pattern as habit. I investigate qualities within color, texture, and process. Fast versus slow, curves versus edges, hard versus soft: I seek to emulate a paradox I find in myself.
