Dichotomy Door
basswood, steel
20 x 9 x 4 in.
The title of this piece is Dichotomy Door. This sculpture represents a self-portrait. It portrays my life as an artist, an individual, a wife and a mother and how to balance and intertwine these into the ebb and flow of my life. The drawer side of the door represents my responsibilities and the curve side represents my artistic expression. Both the responsibilities and the artistic expression are at the same time in balance and in tension. I choose to texture the two sides differently to further illustrate the challenges, the dreams, the fun, and the peace I try to bring to my life. Steel supports keep the piece from toppling over, another metaphor for strength and stability.
