Michèle Guichard

rolled paper stuck on wood
9 x 25 in.

The art of Michele Guichard uses a basic raw material, paper : colour or black & white printed glazed paper from contemporary catalogue pages; it is recycled into art by handicraft techniques, all using collage. Pieces of paper are selected and grouped according to their colours, thus providing a complete palette. Then they are either rolled or crumpled in the hands and stuck on wood, cardboard, canvas or glass in an abstract or evocative picture (the kind others would try to obtain in painting). They also can be stuck on parchment or vellum and then rapidly unstuck, leaving the print of colour in a composition where it mingles with light and shade (others would try to reach such effect with watercolour).
