ARTIST STATEMENT
This body of work is inspired by a woman’s loving choice to prioritize care for herself and the unborn with the wellbeing for all of humanity surrounding the political and social controversies over abortion.
My uterus is just as important as my heart and feel the love for humanity in both organs.
I am heartbroken for so many women to be deprived of regional safe and legal abortion healthcare. We need to better support and care for the people we already have on this planet, not diminish their care.
Many of us feel disappointed and hurt by our Governmental system for their power over the majority to not only revoke a precedented right but then allow the States to punish and prosecute us.
It may be more difficult to have legal bodily autonomy, but we are strong and will ultimately find a way to our freedom. We are the ones who have the real and final power to our bodies. We know what is right.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Melissa is a down to earth artist living along the floodplains of the Mississippi River where she gets inspired and recharged by the changing natural scenery. She has always been very creative and loves to explore different types of mediums from paintings on a canvas to fibers, to the spaces we experience through interiors and architecture.
