ARTIST STATEMENT
The pieces that I am submitting for the Small Works Members Show are early works created on scratchboard. Most of my artwork has a humorous tongue-in-cheek content. In my paintings I usually work in a highly- stylized manner using dark outlines around the images. This technique can be found in Japanese paintings and within the American Pop Art tradition. A broad selection of books and magazines are used in my research.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I work in a highly-stylized manner using dark outlines around the images. This technique can be found in Japanese paintings and within the American Pop Art tradition. I draw directly on the canvas with charcoal or pen and apply bold, intense color using acrylic paints. A broad selection of books and magazines are used in my research. By positioning the flatly-painted images in the midst of a realistic environment, I hope to create a unique balance of oppositional elements.
