About 3 years ago, I sustained an injury that prevented me from painting in the large, expressive manor I was accustomed to creating. Inundated with medical imagery and terminology on a daily basis, I began to abstract the forms and concepts – to appropriate and make them my own – and develop my own visual vocabulary and iconography. This has led to an ongoing series of smaller abstract images, derived from natural forms but transformed into images almost completely removed from their original subject matter.
