Ghost Trees Series: I began the Ghost Trees project in 2014. I brought a series of porcelain “ghost trees” to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where the clear-pine used in my building presumably grew. In the summer of 2018 the trees were brought full circle to Finland, from where many of upper Michigan’s loggers emigrated. In this iteration, small wall reliefs include detail photographs of the outdoor installation I completed at the Oranki Environmental Art Park in Finnish Lapland, dead Lapland pine trees as well as forest landscapes. While woodwork is no longer an element, the ghostly spirit of the fallen trees remains present and visible.
