ARTIST STATEMENT
“volatile vapors” was created to frame and guide the mess of anxiety I’ve developed during the Covid-19 pandemic and to explore how unsettling this world feels to me as a neurodivergent person. I feel disconnected from others and am engaged in a nervous, unsettled energy.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Marie Magnetic is an Indigenous and Jewish visual artist born in southwest Michigan. Her art practice focuses on examining dystopia, detachment, and delusion in society. Through her work, Marie seeks to explore themes of intersectional feminism, consumerism, status quo, education, and access to information. Marie hopes she may teach her viewers to think about the world differently, challenge societal norms, and inspire a greater understanding of social consciousness. Marie has exhibited in group shows at the Chicago Fine Art Salon, Oak Park Art League, Fulton Street Collective, and more. Recently, she was the recipient of a Merit award from LightSpaceTime.art and an artist grant from the New York Foundation for the Arts.
